Terry Dionne

Members will have heard that our former member Terry Dionne sadly passed away on September27th. Terry and his wife Val, one of our former Box Office Managers, have continued to visit Paphos annually ever since they left here several years ago to be alongside their family in Scotland.

Before coming to Cyprus Terry had acted and directed many plays and musicals and was able to bring his vast experience and talent to us at Stage One. He made several appearances on Brownsea Island near Bournemouth in their annual Shakespeare productions.

Terry first appeared here in Habeas Corpus for which he won the Best Actor Award at the PAFTA'S and later in Educating Rita, Busybody, Deathtrap and Bedroom Farce. He not only knew all his lines before anyone else but also the lines of everybody else. He also represented Stage One at the Rosebowl Festival. Many years ago when Stage One was facing a severe crisis he was called on to direct Noises Off, which was a great success and earned him the affectionate title of 'No Notes Dionne' and then later directed a visually beautiful production of The Importance of Being Earnest.

He also made two appearances at the annual Shakespeare Festival at Curium in As you like it and his performance as Prospero in The Tempest was one of the highlights of his career. He always had the ambition to play King Lear which he sadly was never able to do. But he had started to learn the lines. He also was part of a professional touring group in Cyprus and appeared in Romeo and Juliet which was performed at The Paphos Ancient Odeon. A very talented man and actor who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
